The words of the Chairman
The EAGE Research Committee may be understood as a “living engine” of ideas, initiatives and different proposals which encourages members to contribute to the Association. There are three main topics we should continuously be focusing on:
- Workshops organization during the Annual Meeting
- EAGE/SEG joint research workshops coordination
- Technical Program suggestions
The EAGE/SEG joint research workshop is becoming one of the classics among the international events by occurring almost every year since a long time. This event is strongly supported by all Research Committee members, SEG as well as EAGE ones.
There is still a high representation from the seismic expertise, especially compared to Petroleum Engineering and Geology. We will try to balance this situation not only with the number of members, but also by collaborating with other societies such as AAPG, SPE, AGU and others. In this sense, we should be considering or even trying to get a higher interaction with equivalent committees these other societies may have.
Also, I would like to continue supporting and encouraging all members to think out of the box in terms of internal initiatives: a good example is the new “EarthDat”, a portal through which information about geophysical data, geophysical models and software codes can be accessed.
The experience and research career in the industry of most of our members is recognised and appreciated worldwide. Therefore, I consider myself lucky enough and honoured to share this position with all of you. I’ll try to do my best to keep on the same path that my predecessors have followed in order to improve the Research Committee.
Juan Soldo
Chairman of the EAGE Research Committee (2011-2013)
