The field trip will focus on Punta Helbronner on the Mont Blanc massif (3.450 m asl) and the visit to the FMS - Safe Mountain foundation in Entreves, at the foothill of the Mont Blanc.
Punta Helbronner, located at an elevation of about 3.462 m asl, will be reached in the morning by means of a modern cableway; it offers a unique view of Mont Blanc summit (4.810 m asl) and the other major peaks at the border between Italy and France. From the top you will enjoy the view on the Glacier du Géant which joins to the Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) which is the second largest glacier in the Alps.
In the afternoon, FMS Safe Mountain foundation will show us their activities on risk assessment, monitoring and management of glaciers, deglaciated areas, glacial lakes, rockfalls-monitoring plan.
