Workshop Description

This workshop will focus on new and innovative ways to estimate, interpret and exploit 4D signals. The format will be invited presentations and participant discussion.
4D seismic is recognised as crucial for the development of many hydrocarbon fields across the world. Its uses are wide-ranging; from qualitative anomaly mapping to quantitative geomechanical and reservoir model updating. Classically, this information is extracted from full stack amplitude changes and/or time shifts. There are, however, significant challenges in both estimating and understanding our 4D signals, especially in a quantitative sense.

During this workshop, we will cover the following topics:

  • What can we get from pre-stack time-lapse?
  • How to estimate the overburden time-lapse signal reliably?
  • How to use unconventional time-lapse signals (e.g. spectral decomposition, attenuation, anisotropy, broadband)?
  • Is it possible to extract time-lapse shear wave information?
  • Inverting time-lapse: sensible regularization, prior constraints and advanced methods
  • Time-lapse limitations and uncertainties: when to be quantitative and when to be qualitative?
  • How to deal with noisy 4D?
     

Objectives 

To showcase new methods of extracting information from 4D seismic and share experiences of using such information in field development.
