EAGE has a growing global presence in geoscience and engineering and would like its Awards to reflect the breadth and scope of the Association. We therefore encourage members from all over the world to nominate candidates. By submitting a nomination, you can help to recognize and promote technical and professional achievement from within the membership and throughout the world.
Introducing the EAGE “Marie Tharp” Award
This year EAGE is proud to introduce a new recognition, the Sustainable Energy YP Award “Marie Tharp”. For this category, we encourage direct nominations by promising and creative talents among the next generation of energy transition leaders: candidates who meet the requirements can nominate themselves.
Eligible candidates must be MSc and Ph.D. students who are pursuing a college curriculum directed toward a career in geoscience and engineering to support the energy transition. Recognizing the multidimensional nature of the challenge, the Award encourages applications from a diverse range of disciplines.
The awardee will receive a grant to attend the EAGE 2024 GET Conference. Participation in the conference will not only serve to recognize their contributions but also provide an invaluable opportunity to network with industry experts, gain insights into the latest advancements, and further fuel their passion for driving positive change in the energy transition landscape.

Nomination package requirements
1) The nominee’s CV and (if appropriate) the list of publications;
2) A nominating letter that summarises the individual’s achievements and details why they deserve the Award you propose. It is particularly important to describe how the candidate’s work has made a significant difference to society, to the Association, or to science. For the EAGE Marie Tharp Award, candidates are invited to apply directly (a nominator is not required);
3) At least one letter of support from technically qualified people who know the nominee and their work. Although the minimum is one support letter, nominators are encouraged to include a variety of support letters to illustrate the nominee’s strengths. However, Awards are not decided by the number of support letters. For the EAGE Marie Tharp Award, letters of support are not required.
For the Marie Tharp Award, the nomination package consists of:
- A nomination letter by the applicant detailing their motivation for applying for this Award, including their achievements until that time as well as ongoing projects, with a particular focus on their plans to contribute to advancing practices in the field of the energy transition and contributing to the work of the geoscience and engineering community, and EAGE, in this domain;
- The applicant’s (CV) and (if appropriate) the list of publications.

Conditions:
- Most Awards are limited to one candidate. The Honorary Membership and, in exceptional circumstances, the Conrad Schlumberger Award and the Arie van Weelden Award, may be offered to a maximum of two candidates.
- The Awards selection process is carried out by the EAGE Awards Committee on a confidential basis, with final approval of all recommendations by the EAGE Board.
- With the exception of the Marie Tharp Award, individuals cannot nominate themselves for an Award.
- Only EAGE members are eligible for Honorary Membership, Conrad Schlumberger, Alfred Wegener or Arie van Weelden Awards.
- The winners of the EAGE Awards will be announced during the EAGE Annual Conference (10-13 June 2024 | Oslo, Norway). The winner of the Marie Tharp Award will receive a grant to attend the EAGE GET Conference.
